Quick Question

by Danielhatfield on Wed Jan 02, 2021 8:54 pm

Hello Ive just joined here and Im just wondering why do Welsh teams play in the English football league?
The questions probably been asked before but I couldn't see it on here.

I heard one reason, to why Cardiff,Swansea etc. play in England, is that the Welsh League is just the Southern part of Wales is this true?

The Welsh Premier League is definitely not for South Wales as 4 (Rhyl, Connah's Quay, Bangor, and Caernarfon) play on the north Wales coast, and Llangefni is even further north on Anglesey. There is also Port Talbot and Llanelli playing on the south coast, and Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Neath not too far away from the south coast. Teams from anywhere in Wales can play in the Wwelsh League system (and Shropshire in our case, due to out Welsh heritage)

It's more likely that Cardiff / Wrexham / Swansea play in England purely for financial gain, because they would never get crowds of 5,000 - 15,000 playing in the Welsh Premier.

If you search through the threads a bit, you should be able to find one on a discussion we had last year, about the likes of Cardiff, Wrexham and Swansea wanting to qualify for Europe through the Welsh cup, taking places away from the Welsh Premier League
