The Welsh Premier is the top of the Welsh football
pyramid - a national league established in 1992
and the only national competition - all leagues
below it operate on a regional basis, the more localised
the further down the pyramid.
The second tier, immediately below the Welsh Premier,
consists of two leagues, each covering 'half' the
country.
In the south, clubs play in the Welsh Football League
(Division 1). For north and central Wales, clubs
play in the Huws Gray Fitlock Cymru Alliance.
The champions of each may be promoted to the League
of Wales, subject to ground criteria. If the champions
are not eligible, the runners-up may be considered.
