Beck goal enough for victory
A CASE of after the Lord Mayor's Show for TNS, who overcame Cwmbran without ever reaching the heights of Tuesday night's performance against Newtown. It took the Saints an hour to break down stubborn resistance from the Crows, who had clearly come to defend in depth. The ploy worked readily in the first half when TNS were unable to muster a shot on target. A more incisive attacking effort after the break started to create chances with Beck just wide from a Steve Evans flick-on and Chris King firing over from a good position in front of goal. Former Everton youth Beck had just seen his goal-bound shot cleared off the line by Terry Green when he quickly got the chance to make amends. A Tommy Holmes cross was headed on by Evans and Beck took his chance well, lashing the ball past keeper Gareth Wesson from five yards out. Even a goal behind, the Crows showed little ambition and more TNS goals could have followed, but the best chance came in the final minute when last-minute sub Marc Lloyd Williams squared the ball across goal with his one and only touch, but Mike Wilde was unable to connect with the goal at his mercy. |
