Saints not flattered by seven-up win

TNS continued on the goal-scoring gravy-train with a seven goal demolition of Quins.
Young keeper Chris Golton probably had nightmares about making his debut at TNS and his worst fears were realised as he was forced to pick the ball out of the net seven times.
But the academy youngster couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals and made superb saves from Michael Wilde and Marc Lloyd Williams to keep the scoreline respectable.
On a damage limitation exercise, the capital side were probably relieved to find themselves only three down with five minutes left.
Martin Naylor had provided the cross for Lloyd Williams to open his account with a far post volley on 13 minutes and Barry Hogan’s pull back from the byline gave Wilde a close range header nine minutes before the break.
Countless other chances went begging and Saints were hardly flattered by a 2-0 interval lead, although Quins almost grabbed a goal.
Gerard Doherty finger-tipped a Craig Lima header away after a Danny Carter free-kick, but otherwise it was one-way traffic to the Quins' end.
Wilde should have put TNS further in front on the restart but somehow fell over after beating Gorton when one-on-one, but Lloyd Williams grabbed his second mid-way through the half.
Quins would have been happy to escape with a three-goal beating, but the floodgates suddenly opened as the Saints hit four goals in the last six minutes.
Scott Ruscoe crossed for Wilde’s far post header before Nicky Ward hit a goal of the season contender from 30 yards into Golton’s top corner.
It looked as though Lloyd Williams would be denied yet another hat-trick, but the league’s leading scorer had other ideas, heading in Ward’s cross in added time before snatching another almost straight from the restart.
