SAINTS FIGHTBACK PAYS OFF
SPIRITED Total Network Solutions continued their revival under new boss Ken McKenna with a solid display against Port Talbot Athletic.
The Saints battled back from a goal down to clinch a sixth league win courtesy of second half strikes from John Toner and Nick Welton.
McKenna admitted: "The conditions were very difficult for both sides but it was great the way we came back after falling one goal behind.
"We have had some good performances and the players have shown a lot of spirit, now we have got to build on it and keep getting results."
The Saints started the game with plenty of purpose as Tim Alexander forced a low save from keeper Gareth Scantlebury on 14 minutes.
The home forwards were a constant threat despite the heavy conditions and the visiting keeper did well to save at the feet of John Toner. Midweek hat trick hero Nick Welton was equally dangerous up front as the Saints started to gain the upper hand in a gritty midfield battle. But the hosts were left stunned when
Jan Cegielski latched onto a right wing cross from Kevin Bartley to volley the ball home on 30 minutes.
The Saints pushed forward and had strong penalty claims for handball rejected before top scorer Toner volleyed narrowly over the bar.
Toner scored the equaliser when ran onto Welton's cross before rounding keeper Scantlebury and chesting the ball home on 57 minutes.
Substitute Gary Powell almost forced the lead when he fired just over before the Saints secured victory a quarter of an hour from time.
Maurice Doyle split the defence and Welton broke through to slot the ball past Scantlebury as the Saints snatched all three points.
