Pwllheli keeper Parry defies the Saints

WELSH Alliance minnows Pwllheli not only enjoyed their day in the limelight, they gave the Saints a mighty scare in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd at their Leisure Centre Ground
Martyn Naylor was given time and space to fire TNS in front with a 25-yard pile-driver in the fourth minute, but any thoughts of a goal avalanche soon disappeared.
Some rough house tactics and a display of heroics from home keeper Andrew Parry ensured the final result was in doubt right down to the wire.
Parry produced a superb save a minute later to keep out Nicky Ward’s free kick and produced more fine stops as the Saints displayed silky football skills which failed to find and effective end product.
Another brilliant save kept out a Greg Stones header from Naylor's corner and Steven Beck missed a sitter from four yards, while the lively John Toner had the ball in the net only for his effort to be ruled out.
The seaside outfit gave TNS a shock three minutes after the break when a throw-in from the right was passed on by Peter Griffith for Barry Evans to beat keeper Gerard Doherty at close range.
But Parry was soon in action again, saving from Duane Courtney at close range while Toner fired over from 12 yards.
The breakthrough finally came in the 72nd minute when Parry for once failed to hold a fierce shot from Alfie Carter and Beck slotted the rebound against the keeper's prone body, only for the ball to find the back of the net.
It was cruel luck on the keeper, but his side emerged with great credit, despite some over-physical challenges throughout the game which largely went unpunished by referee Lee Evans.
