Evans stunner on opening night

A 79TH-minute goal from ex-TNS midfielder Ricky Evans sentenced The New Saints to their first opening day defeat for seven years.
Manager Ken McKenna could point to the absence of six key players through injury, but this was still a fairly abject performance against a workmanlike NEWI Cefn Druids' side.
There was none of the euphoria of the last visit to Plas Kynaston, when the Saints clinched the title in April, as they failed to raise a worthwhile raid on the Ancients' goal in the whole 90 minutes.
The hosts made a bright start, threatening in their first attack, and should have taken the lead on 16 minutes when Robbie Williams was harshly adjudged to have pushed Lee Jones in the box, but former TNS midfielder and Druids' debutant Ricky Evans fired wide of the target from the resulting spot kick.
A Druids' header flew just over their own bar when Michael Wilde tried to get on the end of Steven Beck's cross in a rare attack, while Jones went close to opening the scoring at the other end, with an 18-yarder that fizzed across the face of Gerard Doherty's goal.
A second-half of almost total impotence came to life in the 79th-minute when Evans picked up a loose ball just outside the box and sent a 20-yarder curling into the corner of the net.
Saints could find no way back against some resolute defending, although Duane Courtney missed a golden chance in injury time when Ancients' keeper Carl Edwards flapped at a cross.
And it was a sign of the Saints' desperation that keeper Doherty sent an 18-yarder high of the target with the last kick of the match from Luke Holden's corner.
The only bright spot was an encouraging debut from new centre-half Michael Taylor, who never put a foot wrong alongside excellent youngster Williams.
