Five-star Saints crush Porthmadog
ONLY the woodwork and some woeful finishing denied The New Saints a record-breaking league victory as they crushed Porthmadog 5-0 at Park Hall to reclaim the Welsh Premier summit.
Sharp opened the Saints' account after 18 minutes from Barry Hogan's inside pass before netting the second in the 37th-minute after good work down the right by Jamie Wood.
Within a minute, John McKenna hit a 20-yarder from Sharp's pass to put the hosts well in control at the break.
Sharp was also involved in the build-up to the fourth goal, the ball breaking to Wood who took his chance well from inside the box.
Keeper Paul Harrison was a spectator at the other end, dealing well with Port's only two goal attempts of the night from Rob Evans and Gareth Parry.
Meanwhile, opposite number Richard Harvey was the busiest man on the pitch as Evans hit the bar from Ruscoe's free-kick and both Sharp and Ruscoe then rattled the woodwork within seconds of each other.
Sub Craig Williams had only just come off the bench when his shot appeared to cross the line via the inside of the far post before being cleared by a defender and McKenna's lob cleared both Harvey and the crossbar.
Steve Abbott was wide with another effort before Tommy Holmes notched a rare goal and the Saints' fifth after yet another shot had rebounded off a post.
Danny Holmes then missed a great chance to join his brother on the scoresheet, steering his shot wide of the far post from a Williams cross.
