Saints book place in league cup semis
THE New Saints cruised into the semi-finals of the League Cup with a comfortable 4-2 aggregate win.
Two second-half goals from Matthew Berkeley and Craig Williams put them four goals to the good, before a late rally from Airbus gave some respectability to the scoreline.
A mundane first-half produced little in the way of chances, although Craig Williams almost opened the TNS account early on with an audacious effort from the half-way line which just sailed over the bar.
Berkeley also went close with a well-taken snap shot from the edge of the box that forced keeper Chris Doran into a fine one-handed save.
Andy Moran brought a save from Paul Harrison at the other end of the half hour while Danny Desormeaux saw his shot deflected narrowly wide.
Shortly after the resumption Marcus Giglio's speculative effort just missed the top corner before the Saints took the lead on 56 minutes, Berkeley showing some fancy footwork to outwit the home defence before planting a poweful shot past Doran.
The lead was doubled on 66 minutes when the Wingmakers cleared a corner only as far as Williams, who hit a superb 25-yarder into the top corner.
Airbus pulled a goal back on 73 minutes when Simon Smith nodded-in at the far post from a Paul McManus cross.
And, in a repeat of the league game last month, Airbus were handed a last-minute penalty when Asa Hamilton was pushed by Connell Rawlinson and Andy Moran scored from the spot kick.
