DOYLE STRIKE WINS SAINTS' FIRST POINTS
A FABULOUS 20 yard free kick by Maurice Doyle gave TNS their first points in Group C at the Deeside Stadium tonight.
In atrocious conditions both sides always tried to play football and provided an entertaining spectacle for the crowd.
The home team started the better of the two teams without really threatening, but slowly the visitors got into the game. It was no surprise when they scored, as just previously Mike Mahoney' effort had been cleared off the line by Mazzerella and Collister was by far the busier of the two keepers.
Doyle's free kick bent around the Nomads wall into the top corner after 32 mins with great precision.
The second half saw the home team mount a challenge, but two outstanding saves from Paul Smith in the visitors goal, particularly from Futcher late on, preserved TNS's lead.
Late on, as the Nomads "chased the game", Leon Gierke should have made it 2-0 despite Collister's excellent save.
With two defeats it's now hard to see how Nomads are going to qualify from the group stages, unless their form improves greatly on their travels.
