Match report FAW PREMIER CUP / Quarter-final

Apr 2nd 2001 at 19:30 Jenner Park
Barry Town 2-3 TNS (abandoned after 105 minutes, waterlogged pitch) Attendance: 391

TNS were left fuming after their quarter-final clash was controversially abandoned midway through extra time at a rainswept Jenner Park.
Saints had taken the lead three minutes into the extra period of a pulsating tie, when referee Neil Morgan sparked uproar by calling the game off, ruling that the pitch was waterlogged.
The decision was a bitter blow for Saints, who dominated the first half with the rain and wind at their backs and forged a two-goal lead by the interval through Timmy Edwards and Anthony Wright.
Alexander also hit the bar early on before seeing his effort cleared off the line.
But Barry hit back after the break with Simon Trueman netting from close range and Jamie Jenkins levelling when his free kick from wide on the left eluded the defence.
TNS had chances and took the lead again three minutes into extra time, when Alexander curled an exquisite shot into the net from the right.
"It was absolutely ridiculous to call the game off, as conditions were not going to change," said club president Mike Hughes.
"If he was going to call it off, why didn't he do it at the end of 90 minutes?"

IN a thrilling replayed quarter final, Barry prevailed in extra-time after a battling display by the Saints.
The match was virtually a carbon copy of the previous encounter, which was also locked 2-2 at full-time, but abandoned 15 minutes into extra time with TNS leading 3-2.
This time it was Barry who edged home with a Nicky Sharpe goal at the tail-end of the first period of additional time.
The game only came to life in the second half when Jamie Jenkins put Barry ahead.
Lawrence David appeared to have settled matters seven minutes from time after Nicky Ward had equalised a minute earlier.
But in a dramatic twist, Gary Powell brought the scores level with just two minutes remaining.
