LACK-LUSTRE SAINTS EDGE CUP WIN
LACKLUSTRE TNS booked their place in the fourth round of the Welsh Cup with an unconvincing victory.
A 66th-minute strike from John Toner proved the slender margin of the Saints' passage as they struggled to make inroads against their determined Cymru Alliance visitors.
Top-scorer Toner spared the home blushes when he was in the right place to drill the ball home from six yards after substitute Steve Anthrobus had nodded the ball across goal.
But there was little else to cheer as a spirited Llandudno more than matched their League of Wales hosts, who were left to reflect on a disjointed display.
The seasiders, despite their endeavour and some enterprising forward running, created few clear-cut chances against a solid defence, although Stephen Evans had a 20-yard strike turned round the post by keeper Mark Deegan on 40 minutes.
TNS, lacking any real spark in midfield or going forward, struggled to make any impression after Anthony Wright had squandered a couple of early chances while Gary Powell produced two good efforts which flew past the woodwork in the second period.
Chris Edge was also guilty of a glaring miss from the penalty spot when he chipped his spot-kick lamely at keeper Phil Owen after defender Bleddyn Jones had fouled Anthrobus.
