LATE STRIKES WIN CUP FOR BARRY
BARRY Town were crowned Welsh Cup winners on Friday after a two-goal victory over TNS at the Racecourse.
Both teams missed golden opportunities throughout a lacklustre game but Jamie Moralee finally broke the deadlock with a superbly struck right foot volley 13 minutes from time.
Gary Lloyd's diving header at the far post eight minutes later secured the victory and gave Barry their second league and cup double.
It was Barry's fourth win over TNS this season, but the league champions were made to work hard for their victory.
Although Barry controlled possession in the first-half, TNS created the best chances.
Centre forward Anthony Wright was guilty of wasting the best of them when he blasted a volley high over the bar form only three yards out.
Neither goalkeeper were seriously tested as both teams looked lifeless having not played a competitive match for over two weeks.
TNS looked a completely different side in the early stages of the second-half though, but a lack of conviction in front of goal denied them the goal they deserved.
John Toner should have scored and only a vital interception form Barry's Lee Phillips denied Anthony Wright from five yards out.
But as the game headed towards extra-time, Moralee produced an unstoppable volley from a Terry Evans cross from the right wing to put Barry ahead.
Jon French should have wrapped up the game for Barry four minutes later but he hesitated long enough to allow the TNS defence to close him down in the penalty area.
But Gary Lloyd's diving header five minutes from the end put the result beyond doubt.
