SAINTS SEND OUT A WARNING
TOTAL Network Solutions sounded a warning after moving fourth in the League of Wales with a 6-0 hammering of struggling Rhyl. After failing to get into their stride in recent outings, the Llansantffraid men again started slowly as the Seasiders went close to a third minute lead when Steve Jones rounded keeper Andy Mulliner only to fire just wide of the post. But the hosts never looked back after taking an eighth minute lead, when Garry Evans broke through to slot past Lee Darnborough after neat interplay with Damien Currier. Timmy Edwards then fired in a second on the half hour against his former club after his header had been saved, before Gary Powell increased the lead on 56 minutes with a headed effort from a Gareth Wilson cross. Wilson and Ryan both sent efforts narrowly off target as chances continued to flow, but it needed a fine fingertip save from Mulliner to deny Steve Jones at the other end, the keeper diving full length to tip the shot onto the post. The Saints, who also had two strong claims for penalties rejected, continued to push forward and sealed victory with three late strikes. Currier added a fourth when he headed home a Rob Morris cross on 77 minutes, and sub Danny Barton (83) nodded in a perfect cross from Darren Ryan, who was also provider a minute later for John Whelan to convert. |
