SAINTS LEFT TO RUE PENALTY MISS
SAINTS did their title hopes no favours by dropping two more points in a goalless draw at Cwmbran. The stalemate left TNS three points behind leaders Barry with both sides having two games remaining. Saints flattered to deceive in the early stages with John Leah testing the home keeper with a header after just four minutes. Steve Evans and Gary Brabin also saw headers go close.
TNS found it difficult to break down a stubborn Cwmbran defensive display and after failing to create clear cut chances were left to rue a 65th penalty miss by Steve Evans. After Simon Heal had been brought down in the box following a good run, Evans’ weak kick was saved by the Cwmbran keeper, Marty Ellacott. TNS were unable to turn second half possession into any real pressure on the Town goal, although it took a great save from Ellacott to deny Chris Taylor’s headed effort. Cwmbran’s Chris Summers saw red near the finish but it was of little consolation to Saints who have now won just two points out of the last possible nine. |
