LLANSANTFFRAID were left to reflect on squandered chances as they slipped to a disappointing 3-1 reverse at Cwmbran.
Despite trailing by three goals early in the second half, Saints had enough possession to have returned home with at least a point.
But they were always chasing the game after going behind on 24 minutes, when home keeper Pat O'Hagan launched a long clearance upfield and Simon Dyer ran through to lob Andy Mulliner, despite appeals that defender Gary Jones had been fouled.
Full back Paul Walker added a second on 38 minutes after breaking the offside trap and Roger Gibbins increased the margin eight minutes after the interval with a header.
The Saints, however, were far from finished and constantly went close to reducing the deficit.
But their only reward was a penalty from winger Adie Jones 15 minutes from time, after Gibbins had handled in the box.
