WALKING WOUNDED LOSE TO CANARIES
THE walking wounded of Llansantffraid put up a battling display before seeing their four-match unbeaten run ended against a side who have yet to lose in the League of Wales this season.
With Ian Evans on paternity leave, Saints were further depleted with John Leah and Aneurin Thomas picking up knocks during the game, while Gary and Arwel Jones appeared as late subs despite still being hampered by back injuries.
A stunning Terry McPhillips strike put Caernarfon on course for the points. He latched onto a through ball to volley a s superb 25-yard effort into the top corner of the net.
The second half was just a minute old when the visitors increased the margin, as Eifion Williams beat keeper Andy Mulliner to a Charlie Boyd cross and glanced his header into the net.
But Saints hit back on the hour, Garry Evans' free kick being headed down by Chris Whelan and brother John lashed his effort into the net from the edge of the box.
Mike Davies saw a goal-bound effort cleared by Paul Bennett 10 minutes later, but any hopes of a revival were dashed five minutes from time, when John Whelan brought down Boyd in the box and Chris Waring converted the spot kick.
Saints did pull a goal back in injury time when sub Gary Jones headed in an Adie Jones corner, but by then it was too late to deny Cernarfon their sixth win of the season.
