SAINTS TAKE CONTROL IN SECOND HALF
TWO goals early in the second half proved decisive as Llansantffraid secured a 2-0 success at rainswept Treflan. Tommy Morgan and Adie Jones took their combined tally to 22 goals for the season, as Saints took a firm grip of the Powys derby after the interval. Pool paid the price for failing to capitalise on a strong wind in the first period, as they fell behind on 48 minutes when Morgan collected Aneurin Thomas’s through ball before slotting past Neil Salisbury, despite offside claims. And strike partner Jones got in on the act just six minutes later with his 13th goal of the campaign when he headed home after Gary Curtiss’s free kick had been nodded across goal by Chris Whelan. Despite battling hard, Pool struggled to make headway in the conditions in the second half and it was the mid-table Saints who threatened to add to their tally. Garry Evans fired a free kick into the side netting while Morgan saw an effort deflected over the bar and another tipped wide of a post by Salisbury. The visitors had enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half with the wind at their backs but failed to prise a clear cut opening. Neil Price shot wide from 20 yards while they went closest on the stroke of the interval, when defender Chris Whelan almost headed a Justin Bridges right wing cross into his own net. But Saints never looked back once they had forged ahead through Morgan’s ninth goal of the season. |
