STUBBORN LIDO DENY TNS
OFF-TARGET Saints dropped their first Welsh Premier points of the season, after being frustrated by a dogged Afan Lido performance After winning their first two league games with something to spare, TNS struggled to find similar goal scoring form against a well-organised Lido. Saints were ahead on 19 minutes when Steve Evans rose to head home Scott Ruscoe's corner. But the lead lasted just five minutes, as Paul Evans scored with a speculative long range lob over the back pedalling Dean Williams. The ‘keeper was almost caught out for a second time when Lee Shrimpton's long range effort thudded against the post on the stroke of half time. Saints had enough possession in the second stanza to have won the game, but could not find the net. Gary Brabin went close on two occasions; Steve Anthrobus and Justin Perry were denied by a fine double save from the Lido ‘keeper, Brian Thomas. Near the end, John Leah appeared to be fouled in the box but, despite the linesman indicating a penalty, referee Nigel Richards waved away the protests.
