TWO GOAL LEAD SLIPS AT VALE
SAINTS let a two goal lead slip away as battling Vale clawed their way back to pick up a precious point in their bid for Europe.
Frank Mottram gave the visitors a flying start when he opened the scoring after six minutes with a well-struck lob from wide out after being released by Garry Evans.
And the striker put Saints in sight of a well-earned victory with another neat finish after collecting John Leah's through ball in the 65th minute.
But Vale stormed back late on to earn a share of the spoils as the visitors faded.
Dave Webley was the saviour as he cashed in on some poor defending to reduce the arrears, then added a second to level as the home side exerted enough pressure to have snatched a win.
