CARDIFF SECOND STRING PREVAILS
FAW Premier Cup quarter-final
CARDIFF'S second string lived up to manager Lennie Lawrence's challenge to perform, advancing to the semis with a professional win at the home of the Welsh Premier leaders.
Gavin Gordon was the star of the show, scoring two goals and helping to make the third for the impressive Stuart Fleetwood.
A pleased Lawrence said after the match: "If you don't approach these games properly you come unstuck - I emphasised that to the boys.
"The only blemish was letting that goal in so soon after our second.
"We thought Gordon would give them problems and that proved to be the case."
Lawrence suggested that some of the squad may have done enough to challenge for a place in Friday's vital league game home to Oldham.
"There are players who have taken a step forward tonight."
Steve Anthrobus scored Saints' consolation effort (see picture).
Gordon (40, 47)
Williams -> Jones (70)
Thomas -> (87)
