SAINTS CRASH OUT OF GILBERT CUP
Bangor City win 4-2 on aggregate
SAINTS face the prospect of a season with silverware after crashing out of the League Cup.
Bangor adapted better to the wet conditions while Llansantffraid struggled to find the form that has made them such a cup force this season.
Bangor sounded a warning after just six minutes when keeper Andy Mulliner blocked well at his near post from Marc Lloyd Williams.
But there was no reprieve following a well-worked free kick in the 20th minute, when Kevin Langley's low pass found Neil Rimmer, who flicked the ball to Alun Evans and he tucked the ball into the net from the left.
Worse was to follow 10 minutes later when Arwel Jones's back header to Mulliner fell short outside the box. The keeper could only clear to Rimmer who volleyed into the unguarded net from 35 yards.
Three minutes from the interval Saints were given some hope when Adie Jones sped past the Bangor defence from halfway before tucking the ball past Mark Deegan.
But thoughts of a second half fightback were thwarted in the 70th minute, when substitute Darren Pritchard crossed from the left for Mark Antrobus to head home at the far post.
As Saints pushed forward in a forlorn cause, Bangor went close to adding to their lead when Mulliner turned Rimmer's low shot onto a post.
Evans had a goal disallowed for offside while at the other end John Leah's effort was also ruled out.
Gary Curtiss missed a golden chance to pull one back for Saints but by this stage Bangor had already secured a final ticket against treble-chasing Barry Town.
