New boys make winning start

Llansantffraid, last season’s Manweb Cymru Alliance Champions, made a winning league debut against visitors Briton Ferry thanks to a brace of goals from new striker Mike Davies.
The Saints, who received a cheque for £700 from the Welsh FA before kick-off for reaching the Allbright Bitter Welsh Cup quarter finals last season, took only three minutes to score their first goal in the top flight – Graham Ellis being on hand to net the rebound after Jason Weetman had headed against the bar.
They went 2-0 up on 16 minutes, Davies volleying in a cross by Ian Clarke from eight yards and the former Lex X1 striker then had a second goal ruled out for offside before the interval.
New signing Dave Norman, injured in a late tackle before the interval, was replaced by assistant manager John Muldoon for the second half which was only one minute old when the villagers increased their lead, Davies beating the offside trap before picking his spot wide of keeper Jones from the edge of the box.
Briton Ferry’s consolation goal came 10 minutes from time, giant striker Phil Jones heading in a right wing corner.
