SAINTS CLINCH FIRST LEAGUE WIN
TNS made up for their European disappointment with their first League of Wales victory of the season at home to Haverfordwest.
But boss Ken McKenna was made to wait until the 81st minute before seeing his side clinch what should have been a far more comfortable victory. McKenna, though, will have been encouraged by the number of chances his side created and he will have been pleased with the display of new keeper Dean Williams, who
made several sharp saves on his debut.
The Saints started well and both John Toner and Steve Anthrobus missed good chances in the opening 20 minutes.
But TNS did take the lead on 25 minutes when the lively Anthrobus broke through the Haverfordwest
defence and pulled the ball back for David Bridgewater to crash home his first goal for the club.
The Saints continued to create chances, but Haverfordwest got back on level terms five minutes before half time when Steve Evans was adjudged to have tripped Chris
Miller in a goal mouth scramble after Dean Busby had hit the inside of the post. Lee Jones converted the penalty for Haverfordwest.
After the break, it was the Saints who looked the most likely to score, although Williams made a couple of important saves to keep TNS in the game.
But all the hard work paid off for the Saints when Jodie Jenkins fired in the winner nine minutes from time, after Anthrobus and substitutes Gary Powell and Anthony Wright had gone close.
