SAINTS FAIL TO BUILD ON EARLY LEAD
KEN McKenna admitted his side were fortunate to get a point in this 1-1 League of Wales draw at Rhyl. After taking a fifth minute lead when John Toner shot home after Timmy Edwards had nodded down a Ricky Evans free kick, Saints failed to fire. "It was disappointing because we never really played," said McKenna. "We had agreat start but then went to sleep and Rhyl were the better team. They would be disappointed not to have won, but having said that, we could have snatched it at the end." After the early setback, Rhyl enjoyed plenty of the game and eventually made their pressure pay on the hour when Lee Coathup was harshly adjudged to have handled on the edge of the box, Matthew Cross's free kick was parried by Dean Williams and Jamie Brewerton fired in from close range. Yet Saints could have snatched the points with a golden chance on 78 minutes when Jodie Jenkins jinked his way through the defence only to fire wide. |
