SAINTS GRAB MOLD TONIC
DOGGED Llansantffraid grabbed a much-needed tonic when they carved out a 2-1 first leg lead over Mold Alex in the second round of the Konica League Cup.
After last weekend's surprise Welsh Cup exit against Cefn Druids, the Saints made the worst possible start when visiting striker Stuart Rain's low 25-yard shot beat Andy Mulliner after 11 minutes.
But to their credit the Powys side battled back and went close when Gary Evans struck the bar from Tommy Morgan's cross.
They deservedly pulled level on 32 minutes when an angled free kick from new signing Simon Abercrombie found the net.
Three minutes later the hosts went ahead when Billy Morris turned well to fire home from close range.
Chances were few and far between after the break although Danny Blocksidge sent an angled drive across the face of goal while at the other end Mold's Mike Maloney saw his diving header cleared off the line.
