Dixie reject clips Flint wings
Llansantffraid are now enjoying the comfort of a mid-table position after returning from high-flying Flint with a well earned point.
Flint, unbeaten since the arrival of Wrexham manager Dixie McNeill, started like lions but faded badly and in the end the Saints could have taken all three points.
New keeper Ian Hughes twice rescued the visitors in the opening seconds as Flint run riot, but it was rare mistake by the keeper that let in Phil Hinchcliffe for the opening goal after 10 minutes.
The Saints defence was appealing for a foul on central defender Graham Ellis when Hinchcliffe was gifted the goal by Hughes, as he failed to hold the ball.
Flint had Llansantffraid penned in for long spells, with Chris Davies and Andy Davies impressive, but they failed to turn chances into goals and it was a vastly different story after the break.
Whatever was said in the visitors’ dressing room at half-time had the desired effect as Llansantfraid came out looking a different side.
Carlton Miller quickly produced a fine save from the home keeper and Andy Edwards, the man McNeill released at Wrexham, proved too big a handful for the overstretched home defence.
The breakthrough came in the 70th minute. David Williams won a halfway line tackle and Billy Morris sent Miller scampering down the right. His cross was met on the run by Edwards in the six yard box and the Saints were level.
Flint threw on their substitutes in a bid to rescue the points but found the visiting defence in fine form.
Phil Hinchcliffe (10)
