Saints hit by late strike
A LATE strike from defender Gwyn Williams earned Caersws a 1-1 draw in the basement battle at Llansantffraid.
The Saints, who had already defeated their Powys rivals twice this term, were denied a precious three points when Williams drilled a 20 yard shot into the corner of the net five minutes from time.
For much of the game the hosts had created the better chances with David Williams seeing a close range effort blocked by goalkeeper John Sillitoe early on while Graham Ellis headed a corner from Ian Clarke narrowly wide.
The scrappy encounter sprang to life eight minutes after the interval when Clarke’s 20 yard shot was deflected into the path of midfielder Williams who slipped his angled shot past Sillitoe.
Llansantffraid, who needed to win to ease their relegation plight, had chances to have sealed victory with the lively Carlton Miller twice going close.
The front runner struck the bar with a lob from the edge of the box on the hour and ten minutes from time his angled volley from a Billy Morris cross was blocked by Sillitoes legs. But Caersws struck late on.
