Clarke and Co close to safety

BASEMENT battlers Llansantffraid continued their escape mission in the Konica League of Wales with a vital win over Flint Town United.
Victory now means the Saints require just one point from their last game of the season against Connah’s Quay to climb clear of relegation danger.
Player-boss Ian Clarke grabbed the decisive goal on 49 minutes when he drilled home an angled volley from the right after latching onto a well floated cross from Billy Morris.
The Saints, playing with a renewed sense of purpose and determination, should really have killed off their visitors following a string of chances in the next 10 minutes.
Carlton Miller twice failed to find the target following well worked moves while the front runner was also denied by a timely save from keeper Dave Edwards.
Midfielder Jason Weetman also headed a golden chance wide after being left unmarked at the far post from Ian Clarke’s corner.
The Saints who found themselves under pressure late in the game, almost paid for their missed chances when Flint striker Andy Carroll headed inches over the bar in the last minute.
