Saints kick-off with Irish win
SAINTS started their pre-season with a deserved win over Irish League Premier outfit Limavady United.
But both sides showed close season rustiness in a first-half of poor quality and few chances, with Saints carving out the only clear cut opening.
A good move down the right hand side involving Steven Beck and midfield triallist Nathan James ended with Michael Wilde sending his shot past the right hand post.
With manager Ken McKenna away on a Uefa badge course, head coach Andy Cale took charge of the Saints for the first time since returning to the club.
He changed his five man midfield formation at the break and brought on John Toner and Jamie Wood up front.
But when TNS took the lead six minutes later, it was central defender Jimmy Aggrey who was on hand to volley past United keeper Michael Doherty, after a Martyn Naylor right wing corner was headed across the box.
Wood went close to increasing the TNS lead from the left side of the area after a good cross by Naylor, before another precision corner from the wing back brought the second goal with a quarter of an hour remaining, when triallist Jamie Maguire volleyed home to complete an encouraging first competitive work out.
