Aiston sparks Shrews victory

AN entertaining match played in torrential rain ended with the same 3-0 scoreline as last year, thanks to an injury time goal from Jody Banim.
But against a backdrop of thunder and lightning it was Shrews' winger Sam Aiston who provided the Treflan fireworks, creating two goals in the first half-hour.
His surging midfield run to the right hand side ended with an inch perfect cross for Dutchman Sergio Ommel to glance his header inside James Coates' right hand post.
Just before the half-hour, Aiston was back in his traditional left wing role to beat Tommy Holmes' despairing tackle before cutting inside to set up Ryan Lowe for an 18-yarder that flew into the top right hand corner.
TNS matched their League Two opponents in most departments and often dominated the midfield.
But they were unable to add the finishing touch to any of their good approach play, with Chris Taylor sending a back post header just wide after eight minutes and Mike Wilde twice denied by Town keeper Joe Hart.
Coates twice came to Saints' rescue, saving at the feet of Colin Cramb after a through ball from Lowe and beating away Ian Fitzpatrick's 25-yard free kick.
TNS enjoyed a period of prolonged pressure after the break with Steven Beck seeing his shot saved and Jimmy Aggrey heading narrowly wide from a corner.
Barry Hogan's shot was beaten away and John Toner had a penalty appeal denied after going down in the box.
Simon Davies sparked several good moves after coming off the bench and Scott Ruscoe was unlucky to see a powerful free kick stopped by Hart.
Transfer-listed Banim fired a warning when his 20-yarder just skimmed the TNS crossbar and when the visitors broke out of defence, Ommel's misdirected header fell to Banim who somewhat unjustly added the third goal from close range.
