Penalty miss lets City off the hook

HONOURS ended even at Treflan with Saints losing their 100 percent home record and Bangor their maximum haul on the road.
But TNS will rue a penalty miss in the final minute, when former goalkeeper Richard Acton easily saved a weakly struck penalty from Marc Lloyd-Williams after Peter Hoy had clearly handled in the box.
In truth, Bangor hardly deserved to lose a match in which they traded blows with Saints on an equal footing and took the lead mid-way through the first half.
When Bangor broke from their own half the ball came to impressive striker Tony Gray who thumped a 20-yarder over a surprised Gerard Doherty into the roof of the net.
Both sides had created earlier chances, with Steve Evans unlucky to send his header against Acton's body and Doherty saving with his feet from Gray after the home defence had failed to clear their lines.
But considering the sides had previously scored more than 50 goals between them, chances were few and far between at either end.
The equaliser came from Lloyd-Williams just after the half-hour, a typical poacher's goal as he got the wrong side of Hoy to send a bullet header past Acton at the near post from Jamie Wood's cross.
TNS stepped up a gear after the break and frequently had Bangor on the back foot with some good approach work.
But they had little to show for their efforts in terms of chances, although Lloyd-Williams could have done better when heading over in front of goal from a Tommy Holmes right wing cross.
Gray continued to cause problems for TNS and his cross was headed over the bar by Marc Connolly before Paul Roberts brought another good save from Doherty.
But ten minutes from time, Lloyd-Williams spurned another good chance in front of goal from a Jamie Wood cross before letting Bangor off the hook with his penalty effort.
