Jiws breaks record in Newtown victory

MARC LLOYD-WILLIAMS set a new club scoring record as Saints moved a step closer to lifting the Welsh Premier crown with a comfortable victory over Newtown at Latham Park.
The striker netted twice in the second half to take his season's league tally to 30, to overtake the record of 29 set by Adie Jones in season 1996/7.
Jones, now manager of Unibond Leaguers Colwyn Bay, reached his target in 40 league appearances, while Jiws has surpassed that feat in 22 starts, plus seven from the bench.
The victory pushed TNS eight points clear of defending champions Rhyl in second place, and was never really in doubt after Nicky Ward had opened the scoring against his old club five minutes before half time.
The utility man's third goal in the last three games arrived in the 40th minute when Ward released Wood on the left and the front-runner pulled the ball back for Ward to sweep into the roof of the net from 12 yards.
Newtown battled hard but created little, with keeper Steve Jones looking jittery early on as he blocked from Jamie Wood after dropping a free-kick.
The Saints tightened their grip on 59 minutes when Chris King's cross was met by the head of Steve Evans, and although his effort was blocked on the line, Lloyd-Williams volleyed home.
And there was no way back for the Robins once Lloyd-Williams had added his second on 71 minutes when rounding keeper Jones.
Newtown's Micky Brown did had one shot saved by Gerard Doherty, while Martyn Giles fired a free-kick over the bar.
