Clarke nips in to end barren run
A coolly taken goal from Ian Clarke five minutes from time gave Llansantffraid their first win in three months last night.
Clarke cut in from the edge of the box to seal a morale-boosting 2-1 win for Saints at Aberystwyth in the Central Wales Senior Cup second round replay.
The visitors, who squandered several chances early on, had gone ahead on 32 minutes through Carlton Miller’s well taken strike.
And although Aber rarely threatened, Saints keeper Andy Mulliner allowed a Nigel Nicholas 20-yarder to squirm out of his grasp for a 70th minute equaliser.
The game then seemed to be heading for extra –time until Clarke, making his first full appearance after his shoulder injury, grabbed that late winner to end his side’s barren run.
Llansantffraid now meet Caersws in the semi-final while Welshpool Town must take on Penrhyncoch in the other tie.
