TONER BRACE KEEPS TNS IN TOUCH
TNS stayed in sight of the league leaders with a 3-0 success over Carmarthen Town thanks to a double strike from John Toner.
The marksman put the Saints on course for the points with a 13th minute opener when, after linking-up with Robbie Wood on the right, he turned a defender on the edge of the box before firing a fierce strike into the corner of the net.
Steve Evans and Justin Perry both failed to find a way past keeper Alex Davies with headed efforts as clear-cut chances were at a premium in the first half.
Toner should have increased the home lead when firing wide but TNS made no mistake on the hour when Nicky Ward found Scott Ruscoe on the right edge of the box, and the midfielder curled a sweet shot into the far corner of the net.
This spurred Carmarthen into their best moments but Lee Jones's long range effort and John Keaveny's header were both turned over the bar by keeper Gerard Doherty.
The lively Toner struck the post while Ruscoe also fired narrowly wide from 35 yards as the hosts carved the better openings.
But the third goal arrived 10 minutes from time when substitute Steve Anthrobus, with his first touch, released Toner to smash home his second of the game.
