CLASS DIVIDE TELLS FOR TNS

TOTAL Network Solutions' latest European campaign ground to a halt as Polonia Warsaw put them to the sword in the second leg of their Uefa Cup qualifying round match at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
A Polonia goal in each half, without reply from the Welshman, was enough to allow the visitors to progress after their 4-0 rout of TNS in Poland two weeks ago.
The side from a village near Oswestry have an unbeaten home record for their two other European games - despite suffering substantial defeats away.
But even with home advantage on Thursday night, turning around a 4-0 deficit was always going to be an impossible task.
The visitors showed their class just a minute into the game when Mateusz Bartczak on the left-hand side of the goal saw an acute angled cross stopped by keeper Mark Deegan.
Despite early Polish dominance TNS marksman John Toner deflected a cross from striker Steve Anthrobus on eight minutes, only for the attempt to skim the upper edge of the crossbar.
A Ricky Evans free-kick just a minute later also scaled the walls of black shirts but was too high to open the TNS account.
Neither side were able to capitalise from the following exchanges as play drifted aimlessly from one end to another.
TNS midfielder Tim Alexander saw the only yellow card of the match for flooring Nigerian Emmanuel Ekwueme in the 28th minute.
The Poles upped the pressure and Jaroslaw Mazurkiewicz's long cross into the box was tapped forward by Bartosz Tarachulski and required a rapid response from the keeper.
On 40 minutes former Barnet player Alexander's shot from 30 yards nearly gave TNS the lead but his effort sailed past the far post.
With four minutes of the first half remaining Warsaw took the lead when Mazurkiewicz found Polish international Arkadiusz Bak in the area for him to drill into the back of the net.
Mazurkiewicz had a shot beaten away four minutes after the restart, but Bartczak made no mistake four minutes after that, weaving past the TNS defenders and Deegan to give Polonia their second.
TNS were unable to break through, although Mark Powell went close with a late shot that was cleared by the Warsaw defence.
But the match ended in a 55th defeat for a League of Wales side in Europe since 1993.
