SLENDER WIN PUTS TNS INTO SEMIS
A FIRST-half strike from Steve Anthrobus was enough to take Total Network Solutions into the semi-finals with a 1-0 success at Flexsys Cefn Druids. Making his first start in almost two months, the former Shrewsbury Town hitman settled a closely fought encounter when he met Derek Ward's perfectly weighted cross from the right before heading firmly into the net. Yet, with the slender advantage, the Saints could never afford to relax after being guilty of some wayward finishing despite having the edge for much of the night. Justin Perry should have made matters more comfortable when he latched onto Mark Powell's 72nd minute pass over the defence but the striker could only lob over the bar with just keeper Dave Blower to beat. This summed up the finishing on both sides with few worthwhile efforts on goal as Nicky Ward - an early substitute for John Leah - struggled to find his range with a string of off target shots. Despite having striker Ross Jefferies sent off for his second booking following a 78th minute foul on Ward, the Druids kept on battling to the end in their quest to retrieve the game. |
