Signed when Gerard Doherty was injured ahead of the Uefa Champions League ties with Ventspils, Paul impressed in two pre-season games. After spending time as a youth with Liverpool and Leeds United, spent some time at Wolverhampton Wanderers and then Chester City, where he made four first-team appearances. A brief spell at Hereford United was followed by time at Southport, but he was released by former Bangor City boss Peter Davenport at the end of season 2006/7. Paul, who is the Saints' number one gloveman, lost his father and uncle at Hillsborough, and played for the Liverpool Legends at Anfield on the 20th anniversary of the disaster (below).
